The life of His Grace Mar. Thoma Dionysius is a source of inspiration for all of us in the family of Mount Tabor. His Grace was the Pioneer in the field of education in Kerala and Tamil Nadu. His Grace laid the foundation for a Religious educational centre at Pathanapuram on a beautiful hillock that he named MOUNT TABOR, which actually transformed “KATTU PATHANAPURAM TO NATTUPATHANAPURAM” his Grace was a student of Christ Church College in Oxford University. He was the colleague and a best friend of Dr. S. Radhakrishnan the former President of India. From 1940 onwards he was the Metropolitan of Niranam Diocese of the Orthodox Church.He continued in the post for 32 years, till his demise on 3rd December 1972. Besides being an ecclesiastical leader, he was a social reformer, philanthropist, humanist and educationalist. He had started a large number of educational institutions, hospitals, and orphanages for the social welfare of the society.
After the demise of His Grace Mar Thoma Dionysius his successor the Most Rev. Thomas Mar Themotheos became the superior and later became the Catholicose of the East, as named His Holiness Moran Mar Baselious Mar Thoma Didimos assumed as the superior of the institution.
Mount Tabor convent is a religious institution for women established in the year 1930 by His Grace Mar Thoma Dionysius. His grace was a pioneer in the field of education in Kerala and TamilNadu. His grace laid the foundation for a religious educational centre at Pathanapuram on a beautiful hillock that he named MOUNT TABOR.
The first superior of the convent was Rev. Mother Susana OST inspired by the call of Lord Jesus Christ left all worldly pleasures for the sake of serving the poor and needy people started to lead a convent life at Pathanapuram. She decided to lead a monastic community life, according to the monastic traditions of the Oriental Orthodox Churches. She led a life of prayers and engaged in Educational, Social and Missionary activities. She dedicated her life to uplift the poor people and also started schools and hospitals to cater to the needs of the society. She was the first Manager cum Superior of the Mount Tabor convent since 1930 up to her demise on 11th June 1980. Her life is a source of inspiration for all of us in Mount Tabor family.
